GoodRx is the 800-pound gorilla of prescription discounts. And it's genuinely useful. But here's what they don't advertise: their prices aren't always the lowest.
GoodRx makes money by steering you toward pharmacies that pay them the highest referral fees. That doesn't mean they're lying about prices. It means their incentives don't always align with yours.
We regularly find lower prices on other platforms. Here are four worth checking:
1. RxSaver by RetailMeNot
Free to use, often surfaces prices GoodRx doesn't show. Particularly strong at independent pharmacies.
2. Amazon Pharmacy
If you have Prime, their prescription prices are surprisingly competitive. Plus, home delivery means no pharmacy trips.
3. Cost Plus Drugs (Mark Cuban's company)
Transparent pricing model: cost + 15% markup + pharmacy fee. On some drugs, they crush everyone else. Worth checking for any medication over $30/month.
4. ScriptSave WellRx
Another free comparison tool. We've seen it beat GoodRx on about 30% of the drugs we've tested.
Our recommendation: never check just one source. Spend two minutes comparing across at least two platforms before you fill. The price differences can be $20-$80 per prescription.
